TEST DRIVE MEME |
01. ARRIVING IN PELEA
A cold wind singing down from the white-capped mountains which hang blue-black in the distance stirs your cheek, the tall grass all around you. A bough creaks as the wind makes it tremble, and the dappled shadows drift over you, leaves rustling. As you blink awake, you hear the quiet hiss of water over stones. You are not where you once were!
You and a large group of strangers are blinking awake, pulling yourselves up off the dirt, grass, and rubble near a small wooded stream. There is no evidence of civilization in sight, and as you exchange stories you realize that you must decide what to do.
Will you head past the trees and towards the mountains? Deeper into the forest? Stay put and wait for help to arrive? You might even try to meet everyone else, and either convince them to band together... or head their separate ways.
02. CITY SLICKER
There are many cities throughout the world of Pelea, and in most player characters, the Flaws, are welcomed as curiosities. From the lively, bustling markets of colorful Vairaya to the grimly efficient and stately mountain strongholds of Draichurith, your characters will find a wide variety of cultures and races to interact with and investigate. They could be seeking empoyment, answers to the mystery of their arrival, or a quiet place to drink away their worries.

03. WILDCARD!
→ vairaya, day
His bright blue eyes turn keep and he looks up at the man who apparently feels the need to conceal his protection. He wants to ask about it, but first thing first; he was asked a question.]
Yes, actually. Towns in the Free Marches have markets like this all over. I quite enjoyed them whenever we stopped to trade.
[He grins broadly, having found in all his time as Inquisitor that open-faced friendship offered quickly will earn you a lot of information about the person you're speaking to even in just their reaction to it. He offers his hand for a shake.]
Gianni Lavellan, of the Inquisition. Though I suppose that affiliation means little in an entirely different world.
no subject
[ But no one here knows the words, or HYDRA. ]
James.
[ He shakes the offered hand, a little stiffly, offers no last name and certainly no affiliation. Barnes is easier when he's a soldier first, but his first name is his own. ]
[ Like an afterthought, he adds, ]
Nice to meet you.
no subject
[He dials it back just a little, learning quickly through the other man's reaction that he's a wary sort. No surname, stiff handshake, calculating eyes like he's trying to figure out what the short elf's game is. A soldier, then? He's seen that look in Cullen's eyes more than once, threat assessment clearly the only thing marching across his mind.
Good to know.
Still casually, Gianni turns back to the stall's proprietor and exchanges a few small coins for a bright pink fruit the size of a fist. It is actually what he'd come to this stall for, before being asked that casual question.]
I take it you're not from here either?
no subject
[ The hyperawareness is a function of himself as much as it is an effect of trauma. ]
No. Neither are you.
[ He has asked around and overheard. There's no such place as the Free Marches, locally. ]
no subject
No, and Elves from Thedas don't bite either, if that's what you're worried about.
[A gentle jibe, following by a legitimate softening of his expression, almost sheepish.]
We are all on the same side here, or at least I'd like to think so. Not so much us and them, I hate to think of things that way, but those of us from outside this world should probably at least be acquainted. There could be things that effect us as a group.
no subject
How do I know? I've never been to Thedas.
[ A beat, and more slyly, ]
I hope you're not venomous.
no subject
[He winks conspiratorially. He is a rogue after all, and even if he prefers speed to stealth he does know a fair bit about the poisons and venom he can outfit his weapons with. Generally he doesn't use them, though. A quick death is a mercy on the battlefield; no need for anyone, even enemies, to suffer.]
Are there many venomous Elves where you come from?
[Is that why you wear armor under your clothes?]
no subject
[ There is a process of disarmament. Often, people do it without thinking: a smile here, the right joke there, the flow of conversation. There is only one flaw in this premise: James was never made for that end. What good is a fist that opens so easily? ]
How about you? I don't see any fangs.
no subject
[He tilts his head for a moment, dwelling on the thought and the logistics therein, then shakes his head and leaves off the topic, tossing the fruit he'd purchased up and then catching it out of the air.]
You should try one of these, by the way. They're delicious.
