TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME
PREMISE PLOT ARRIVAL SETTING NAVIGATION

01. ARRIVING IN PELEA
A cold wind singing down from the white-capped mountains which hang blue-black in the distance stirs your cheek, the tall grass all around you. A bough creaks as the wind makes it tremble, and the dappled shadows drift over you, leaves rustling. As you blink awake, you hear the quiet hiss of water over stones. You are not where you once were!

You and a large group of strangers are blinking awake, pulling yourselves up off the dirt, grass, and rubble near a small wooded stream. There is no evidence of civilization in sight, and as you exchange stories you realize that you must decide what to do.

Will you head past the trees and towards the mountains? Deeper into the forest? Stay put and wait for help to arrive? You might even try to meet everyone else, and either convince them to band together... or head their separate ways.

02. CITY SLICKER
There are many cities throughout the world of Pelea, and in most of them player characters, the Flaws, are welcomed as curiosities. Whether they're among the passionate, oft thought as hot-headed, but hospitable folk of the Banner or the noble and haughty people of the Empire, your characters will find a wide variety of cultures, races and simply people to interact with and investigate. They could be seeking employment, answers to the mystery of their arrival or other folk like themselves, or a quiet place to drink away their worries.

[ Glancing briefly over her shoulder at the owner, now thoroughly engrossed in speaking with another customer, she gives a mild shrug. ]

I'm certain you could try. Whether the owner would allow it is the real question. I don't imagine some of them would take kindly to skepticism around their products.

So say things are like-- [What's a good comparison here?] You have a stuffy nose at the moment, based on the weather or the moon or something.

I feel as if it might turn into one of those ridiculous scenarios where the oil seller picks a 'random person' from the crowd to test a product - and it works! Amazing!

[ She's also seen too many people try to peddle out coin from the ignorant masses. ]

Still, it wouldn't hurt. See if someone else will use it for a bit and take note of the results. I wonder if the owners would allow a trial run.

[Waver smiles a little at the mention of the oil seller. She's right, naturally, but sometimes there are no other options. Placing the book charm back where it was - the expense doesn't justify the contents or protection it offers - Waver considers the options.]

If I thought I'd be any help in testing it out, I'd offer. [Looking behind him, Waver can only pray he'll find someone else willing to help.]

Huh. Must be a slow day.

I'd like to help, myself, but I'm a bit ill-equipped at the moment.

[ He can take that as he likes. Jiaport and the Empire are home to mages of all kind. Magic is respected. Still, she can't help but feel if she tells the wrong person, she could easily end up in chains, and being a Warden doesn't allow her the same proclivities it did back home. ]

Been here before?

[Waver likes to think he follows that implication. God knows he's found being disconnected from his magecraft to be one of the most horrifying things about arriving in another world, and one of the things he's kept most quiet about. Finding language to dance around that fact has been both thrilling and awful.]

Not at all. I'm just passing through, likely heading further south.

[Just passing through has been all he's done lately.]

Further into the Empire, you mean?

[ While a simple question, it might betray a bit of her uncertainty; Neria doesn't know the map of Pelea as well as she'd like to know it. But the Empire, to her knowledge, is the only nation this far south. The question is, where is he looking to go? ]

Has something caught your eye, or are you just a traveler?

Yeah. And then maybe to the seas west. Or else I don't know.

[It'll depend on many things, but mostly what he wants to do. Waver's come to appreciate traveling under his own steam, so long as he can keep his head down.]

And you second guess was the correct one. I travel.

That's a great deal of wandering.

[ A traveler after her own heart, though her idea of traveling so frequently coincides with the accusation that she is avoiding her duty. It's a shame that people don't quite understand the little freedom she's had in her life - and how she has an obligation to the people, not just to the Wardens. ]

I've seen the maps; Pelea is a large place. How long have you been traveling? Do you have a cause or a goal in mind?

Three months, I think?

[Well, two months plus a week or so. Easier to round up, it does sound more impressive.]

And as for goals? Not really. Mostly I'm just enjoying the novelty of it.

The novelty of it? You speak as if this is your first time journeying.

[ That's a curious way of putting it. Neria doesn't make a show of looking around for anyone with him - but it's odd for someone so unassuming to be traveling on his own. ]

[There's a little nervous laugh, one that Waver's not quite proud of.]

My first extended time would be a better way of phrasing it.
