TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME
PREMISE PLOT ARRIVAL SETTING NAVIGATION

01. ARRIVING IN PELEA
A cold wind singing down from the white-capped mountains which hang blue-black in the distance stirs your cheek, the tall grass all around you. A bough creaks as the wind makes it tremble, and the dappled shadows drift over you, leaves rustling. As you blink awake, you hear the quiet hiss of water over stones. You are not where you once were!

You and a large group of strangers are blinking awake, pulling yourselves up off the dirt, grass, and rubble near a small wooded stream. There is no evidence of civilization in sight, and as you exchange stories you realize that you must decide what to do.

Will you head past the trees and towards the mountains? Deeper into the forest? Stay put and wait for help to arrive? You might even try to meet everyone else, and either convince them to band together... or head their separate ways.

02. CITY SLICKER
There are many cities throughout the world of Pelea, and in most player characters, the Flaws, are welcomed as curiosities. From the pastoral villages or bustling, grand cities of Shousal to the massive, sprawling bureaucratic centers of the Empire, your characters will find a wide variety of cultures and races to interact with and investigate. They could be seeking empoyment, answers to the mystery of their arrival, or a quiet place to drink away their worries.

Jack sounds about as surprised as Charles himself feels, and it feels like he needs to make sure, so he pulls Jack to his feet using their handshake, wrapping his arms around the taller man.

It's a brief hug but it feels important to Charles, just to make certain he's not hallucinating. He's not been on drugs in months, but you never know, the ale could be especially strong in this tavern.

Once he pulls away, he keeps a hand on Jack's arm for a moment, just looking at him. "How long you been here?"

Hugs from Charles are rare, but welcomed in all cases, especially when being hauled to his feet and pulled into the solid weight of Charles Vane is enough to convince anybody that he's real, once and for all. However brief, it was exactly what he needed.

"Not long. A week? Two weeks? I lost count. I haven't seen you in months, have you been here this whole time?" they'd wondered where he'd gone, it was a little odd of him to disappear without telling them he was going, but Jack had just presumed it had slipped his mind, or that he'd been drunk at the time, and Vane would be back like he always was. "What have you been doing with yourself in this godawful place... apart from asking for money, of course," he added, a little teasingly. He couldn't really talk, obviously, he'd spent most of his time here getting drunk.

"I have," Charles replies, nodding. He's been here, not lost somewhere in the West Indies after taking yet another skiff, which is probably what Nassau at large thought happened.

Not that he cares. The last time he disappeared without telling anyone, he came back to town with a crew stronger than any other, and took over the Fort. It ended up being a good idea, in the short-term.

Charles always had issues with long-term.

"I've been working, getting on ships, doing some recon, gathering knowledge on the captains and the crews around here. Soon enough I'll be able to get enough men on my side to sail under my own flag again." Charles raised an eyebrow. "What about you?"

Jack glanced down at the tankard in his hand, then back up at Charles, and it was obvious he was reluctant to tell his former captain the truth, not when the other man had been so productive since coming here and Jack had done nothing but wallow in his own misfortune. Eventually, he shrugged, expression resigned, and lifted the tankard slightly to indicate it.

"Something akin to my current activity, only in larger quantities and at great length. Not my finest hour, clearly," he admitted "But should your new flag be in need of a capable quartermaster, well, I would be happy to volunteer my... more sober services." his tone was casual, as if he didn't care one way or another, but he hoped Charles knew him well enough to understand what he really meant. 'I would be happy to volunteer my services' meant, in this instance 'please take me with you'.
